Info:
A semi-annual summons of the bearers of the Chicago saxophone tradition, this year’s round-up includes James Perkins, Juli Wood, Kevin Nabors, Rajiv Orozco and Pat Mallinger. Holding down the rhythm section are Kirk Brown on piano, Junius Paul on bass and Clif Wallace on drums.
JazzCity is a collaboration initiated by the Jazz Institute of Chicago with the Chicago Park District. Since 1997, we have partnered to bring free jazz performances to city parks—everyone from jazz masters Von Freeman and Willie Pickens to jazz-and-basketball improvisation with a hip hop poet.
Many young Chicago musicians have made their public debut with JazzCity and gone on to national repute, and renowned jazz legends have presented projects on a grand scale. Numerous JazzCity projects have gone from the neighborhood parks to the awesome stages at Millennium Park and the Chicago Jazz Festival. Come celebrate the past, present and future of jazz in Chicago!
