AUGUST WILSON CENTER JURIED INVITATIONAL November 2011 - March 2012
The August Wilson Center for African American Culture will host our first August Wilson Center Juried Invitational. This exhibition will include diverse applications of style, content and technique, and seeks to promote varied conceptual and formal directions in art.
The Center seeks to promote, support, cultivate, and honor artists of color who, through their craft, explore the rich heritage of African American culture. The 2011-12 seasonal theme of Affrilachia further highlights the artistry of African Americans in the region defined as encompassing the thirteen states that touch upon the Appalachian Region (Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia).
The exhibition will attempt to balance various areas of artistic concern, including Traditional, Realism, Modern, Visionary, Conceptual, and Folk. Artists will be selected by jury, as this exhibition strives for a broad-ranging presentation surveying the spectrum of contemporary visual fine art in Western Pennsylvania and Affrilachia.
