Istanbul Center is pleased to announce that we are hosting a Lecture-Recital program by famed musician and researcher Dr. Evren Kutlay on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at the Woodruff Arts Center!
Dr. Kutlay is a native of Turkey and teaches at Koç University. She received her MBA and MM in Piano Performance from the University of West Georgia. In 2007, she completed her Ph.D. in Musicology at İstanbul University, Social Sciences Institute.
Dr. Kutlay has performed solo and four-hand piano music, as well as chamber music in Turkey at venues such as İstanbul University, Boğaziçi University, Koç University, Kocaeli University, İstanbul and Ankara Austrian Consulate Cultural Office, Turkish-American Universities Society, Kadıköy Public Education Center, and at the Afyon International Classical Music Festival, and in several United States venues.
She was a featured lecturer and performer at the 25th annual University of West Georgia Interdisciplinary Conference in the Humanities and will repeat this role again at UWG's 26th annual installment of said conference. She will also be presenting a paper at the Georgia Music Teachers Association (GMTA) conference at Columbus State University this fall.
Dr. Kutlay is also the author of the book "European Musicians of Ottomans" and recorded a CD titled "European Music in Ottoman Istanbul". Her current research focuses on the effects of Ottoman modernization on music, the steps taken, musicians employed, works composed, and the musical politics of sultans.
Reception to begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Woodruff Arts Center's Center Space. Performance to start in the Rich Theatre at 1:00 p.m. and will be proceeded by a question and answer session.
