PART #2

The Human Rights Celebration would have tourists pouring in from all over the world to see the historical landmarks and make the pilgrimage to the Phelindaba Cemetery to lay flowers and libations on the ancestors’ graves. During this celebration vendors would be set up on every corner and at the main entrances of the historic landmarks. The musical celebration would add to the aroma of the smells and sounds vibrating in Sharpeville. This aids the tourism vehicle, as tourists would be caught up in the moment and purchasing refreshments and souvenirs to make their visits more pleasurable and to take back home.

All this was taken away when the government move the Human Rights Celebration to Kilpton in SOWETO. Many believed that their financial support was taken from them, without a vote. Businesses were the big loser as they saw their revenue go to zero versus the cost for supplies they hoped to sale for the annual event.

The protest was a result of nervous patience. The Sharpeville resident felt as if they were puppets in this political decision. The community of Sharpeville were ignited by the Youth protests and joined in later by the adults to keep the protest brewing.

Once again The Youth of Sharpeville spirits rose, demanding that their causes DO NOT be DISRESPECTED, 52 years later..
