There are no restrictions on subject matter. Performers will recite 2 minutes of an original script: poetry, article, prose, novel, music, comedy, rap, etc.

The 2005 Avant-Garde Writers Convention will have a focus session on publishing and owning your copyrights. The convention dedicates one hour to exciting, open and candid discussion by aspiring and seasoned writers and publishers about censorship, responsibility, and creative liberty. . . The dialogue sky is the limit. And last, but certainly not least, poets, lyricists, skit & playwrights, comedians, rappers, journalists, fiction and non-fiction writers will perform and compete for the coveted Annual 2005 Avant-Garde Writers Convention award.


This extraordinary affair is hot and fabulously unique in that writers (of all kinds) get to say exactly what they want to and then get the refreshing opportunity to immediately hear what other writers think about their comments and ideologies. Because the performances and discussions are not censored, performers or attendees under 18 years old must have written parental authorization (see application).

The purpose of the convention is to promote and inspire writers by bringing together a vast spectrum of literary artists - lyricists, journalists, publishers, and business writers, speechwriters, novelists, non-fiction writers, poets and so many who believe in the power of words.


In 2004, Hotep, of Skinnymen Productions Dante’ McCommon, of Affair with Flair Freedom of Freedom Speaks and Ebon Dooley, of WRFG , co-sponsored the event.
