Position Summary: The Water Bureau has an exciting opportunity in its Engineering Design Section. This position will manage a group that completes capital projects for the Engineering Services Group. The role will help in ensuring the delivering high quality, efficient, and critical projects for Portland Water Bureau (PWB) customers. The Engineering Supervisor will work closely with the Design Section Engineering Manager to lead and supervise a staff of Engineers, Engineering Technicians, and Capital Project Managers.
This position currently oversees work to support the water bureaus Groundwater, and Pump Station & Distribution Storage Programs. Responsibilities include providing oversight for and assigning work for engineering staff to ensure that program and project goals are met. Work includes review of scopes, schedules and budgets for the program and individual projects are established and maintained. This position monitors and provides input for projects from Planning to Construction Management; performs design project quality assurance/quality control check; actively participates as a member of Project Review Board (PRB) and the Engineering Management Team (EMT). The position provides technical training and mentoring for Section staff; guides development of staff to fill future needs; interacts with other Groups in the water bureau, other city bureaus and outside agencies on joint projects. This position may also be designated project manager to lead sensitive and/or technically complex projects requiring a senior level engineer.
To successfully deliver these programs, the Engineering Supervisor will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including staff throughout the PWB (operations, maintenance and construction, water quality, resource protection), consultants, construction contractors, other City bureaus, regulatory agencies, and the general public. This position has the opportunity to build and grow this program, to recommend standards, policies, and procedures that protect PWB assets, and to develop new pathways for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
The Engineering Supervisor in this section will continue to develop, support, grow equity and diversity in staff, workplace environment, processes, and program goals. The position will also actively participate in supporting the Bureau's Strategic Plan, Vision and Mission statements. This is a permanent full-time position.

Position Summary This is a skilled mechanical and technical position in the Department of Public Works, Office of Fleet Management. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, overhauling and maintaining a wide variety of fleet vehicles and equipment, with minimal supervision. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school, vocational school, or equivalent and three years of experience in plumbing or any equivalent combination of related training and experience. A Valid Florida Driver License is required and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets the requirements of Alachua County policy #6-7; Motor Vehicle Records will be reviewed prior to employment. Position Summary This is skilled craft work in commercial and residential plumbing in the Facilities Management Department. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for installing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance for plumbing equipment. Work is performed under the direction of a higher-level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained. Examples of Duties This is an emergency essential classification. Upon declaration of a disaster and/or emergency, all employees in this classification are required to work. Exudes a positive customer service focus. Advocates building organizational culture through aligning decisions with core values including: integrity, honesty, respect, diversity, innovation, accountability and communication. Maintains supply and discharge piping systems by opening clogged buildings and systems piping and replacing diaphragms. Coordinates materials and supplies for larger projects. Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on faucets, sinks, traps, commodes, urinals, and flush valves. Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on gas, vacuum, air, chilled, steam, and hot water lines. Detects the location of gas leaks and repairs accordingly. Installs and maintains sump pumps. Repairs and changes out air compressors, booster pumps, and vacuum pumps. Repairs and replaces sanitary and storm sewer lines and plumbing fixtures including backflow preventers. Provides support to other trades and contractors. Performs related duties as assigned. Completes work orders as assigned, including accurate and timely entries into the department’s work order management system. Conducts preventative maintenance/safety inspections and repairs. Maintains and repairs power tools and equipment, as assigned. Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment that is not under contract with the carrier. Participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation. Estimates time and materials for assigned projects and keeps records of cost involved. Provides limited supervision and instruction to semi-skilled and unskilled helpers. Drives a County and/or personal vehicle to perform required duties. Performs the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency.
