Org Synopsis 

Asian American Theater Company's (AATC) mission is to connect people to Asian American cultures through theater. By developing and performing plays through workshops, staged readings, and full productions, we aim to entertain our audiences and train our artists. Through live performances that express the diversity of Asian American experiences, we seek to enrich American theater and increase the presence of Asian American stories on stage.

AATC was established in 1973, and is one of the nation’s oldest theatrical organizations dedicated to the development and presentation of works by, for and about Americans of Asian and Pacific Islander descent. In an era of increasing anti-Asian sentiment and outright violence, it is crucial that Asian Pacific Islander American artists be given opportunities to produce their responses to events and increase dialogue and understanding between all of our ethnic communities.

Our Programs
Main Stage Productions • New plays and revivals of classics by Asian American playwrights, directed, performed and designed by local artists. Many scripts are developed at AATC as world premiere productions.

NewWorks Incubator • A program to nurture, develop, workshop and perform the new works of emerging Asian American playwrights by connecting writers to a collaborative community of actors, directors, and other theater professionals.

Staged Readings • Scripts under development are directed, rehearsed and presented, followed by discussion and critique by theater professionals.

Workshops and Classes • Courses in acting, scene study, voice, movement and script writing, conducted by professional artists.
