Org Synopsis 

We are all brothers and sisters of this country and we should help one another. Everyone born into this world should have a place to live a place to call home and a place of accomplishment. H.O.P.E.S Homeless Bound – My Home is Near, is a non-profit organization meant to help make these dreams come true.

Tonja 4Back in 1988-89 I was living in California and took a trip with my family to San Francisco. While walking down the city streets, I saw a homeless man pick a milk carton out of the trash and begin to drink it. Most people would have been disgusted with the sight, others would have mocked the man. What I saw was people simply walking past him, as though that was the way it was supposed to be. I understand that was the way it was, but it didn’t have to be. As I continued walking with my family, I saw another homeless man. As he was lying down on the ground I reached in my pocket pulled out a dollar, because that was all I had. I gave it to him, and my husband at the time asked “Did that make you feel better?”. I looked at him and replied “No” … because I couldn’t help them all.

Walking down the street in downtown San Francisco, it seemed the streets were lined with homeless people. It sickened me to my stomach because people walked past them as though they were invisible. I want to stop that. I want to give those people a home I want to help provide a better life. I know that there will be some that don’t want my help. But all I can do as an organization, I will do to help get our homeless into a warm and comfortable place to call home, one city at a time.

This organization is not for profit. I will utilize all the no profit organizations I can to assist me in this journey that will benefit everyone. I don’t look for payment I want to be the solution to a lifelong situation that has gone unnoticed for a life time. – Tonja Butler, Founder, H.O.P.E.S
