  On 15 September Mexico goes wild with Independence Day celebrations that carry through to the following day, and Puerto Vallarta is no exception. The city centre streets and the Malecón are full of revellers enjoying the folklore dances and fireworks, and the various bars, restaurants and galleries also organise their own events for the occasion with many of them featuring serenading mariachis.
There is the usual military march that is carried out at every monumental celebration while the traditional "Viva México" cry at 11pm on the first day is the focal point of the festivities.
