Contracting Opportunity Event Designed to Help Minority Businesses
INDIANAPOLIS – The City of Indianapolis, Indianapolis Business Journal, the Indianapolis Cultural Development Commission, the Indianapolis Zoo, NCAA National Office, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and United Way of Central Indiana are partnering to present the 2008 Contracting Opportunity Event: Connecting Buyers and Sellers. This event brings together purchasing agents and decision makers from the area’s largest cultural institutions, as well as City and State agencies with representatives from the community’s minority- and women-owned businesses. The goal is to increase total cultural spending with Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) companies in the State of Indiana.
This unique event will take place on Monday, October 13, 2008, from 2 to 4:30pm, at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. New this year, the City of Indianapolis will host a resource table, complete with information on certification for MBE/WBE vendors and project planning. Admission is free, and no reservations are required. Free parking will be provided at The Children’s Museum garage on Illinois Street.
Buyers from over 30 cultural institutions and municipal and state agencies will be available in one location at one time to talk to attendees about contracting opportunities. Major cultural not-for-profit institutions in the Indianapolis area are able to apply their purchasing power and commitment to supporting small business through this collaborative effort. From construction projects to consulting contracts to office supplies, cultural not-for-profit organizations spend a lot of money with area businesses, providing a sometimes-hidden source of purchasing power and an untapped resource for small businesses and MBE/WBE firms.
The Contracting Opportunity Event has been structured for the convenience of the small business owner who often struggles with current operating demands while growing new business. Light refreshments will be served. Door prizes will be drawn from vendor business card entries.
