ONLINE RADIO SHOW FOR DISABILITY COMMUNITY BROADENS SCOPE


”Exceptional People, Exceptional Lifestyles,” the online radio talk show developed by multicultural marketing firm, NFS Communications and Publishing, Inc., to share information about the disability community, is generating interest from companies and organizations wanting to reach various multicultural consumer segments inside and outside the community.

The radio talk show which streams live on Blog Talk Radio every Friday evening, is beginning to be sought after by companies and organizations wanting to not only reach the 56 million-strong disability community, which in itself a multicultural community, but also their network of families and friends, significantly increasing the customer base and revenue-building potential for these businesses.

The show is also being considered for international syndication to radio stations in the African Diaspora and the Caribbean, where the disability community also numbers in the millions, but has major challenges in securing much needed assistance. Details about that will be announced at a later date.

Hosted by Norma Stanley, president of NFS Communications and Publishing, “Exceptional People, Exceptional Lifestyles,” is a call-in interactive radio talk show that shares stories about the people, products, politics, events and services impacting the disability community, as well as the companies and programs supporting it.

“The disability community crosses all race, cultures, ethnicities, sexual orientation and socieo-economic boundaries and there are many amazing stories to tell, but that is true about other communities throughout the nation’s diverse multicultural tapestry also. As a result, we work to share news about the issues impacting them at the same time” said Stanley.

The mother of a special needs child, Stanley says that one focus of the show is to share more uplifting stories about people with mental and/or physical challenges and their families, who aren’t in the forefront of news media coverage as she believes they should be.

“In general, we don’t hear or read enough stories about those in the disability community and its issues unless it’s bad news and I want to help reverse that,” Stanley said, who is also a freelance journalist and author of “The Elected Lady—Finding Victory in the Challenge (Words of Faith, Reflections and Inspiration for Mother of Special Needs Children and Other Moms),” an inspirational book for and about mothers of special needs children.

Stanley says the guests on the talk show come from communities across the nation in business, religious, civic, education, political, sports, health and wellness, entertainment, arts, culture and recreation arenas, some of whom are well known in their respective areas. The guests share timely, interesting and sometimes controversial information that not only benefits and interests the 56 million-strong disability community, but also those on the outside wanting to learn and understand more about the community’s many challenges, victories and opportunities to connect with them.

“We’ve had guests like Josh Blue, a nationally known comedian with cerebral palsy, who won NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” competition a few years ago,” said Stanley, whose company also provides disability workshops and integrated marketing services to corporate marketers. “We’ve also had companies like Merrill Lynch share information about their financial services products for families of children or adults with disabilities, who are concerned about trusts, wills and long term financial planning for their family members with disabilities. In addition, we’ve had on professionals from the healthcare and medical industries, disability policy representatives from President Obama’s administration as well as other politicians, and representatives from organizations such as Easter Seals, Autism Society, Down Syndrome Foundation, Epilepsy Foundation, etc.”

Stanley says her show not only focuses on news centered on the disability community, but also profiles guests within the nation’s vast multicultural community, including the African American, Latino, Gay and Lesbian, Youth and Senior communities, who also share key information they want known.

“Although the disability community is the largest minority population in the nation and the primary focus of the show, it is just beginning to find its voice about its value and significance as a major segment of our society and be recognized as such,” she said. “However, there are other cultures and segments that have moved past the emerging consumer stage, that want tell their stories and share their issues, and “Exceptional People, Exceptional Lifestyles” wants to give them all an opportunity to be heard.”
