This Annual Juneteenth Celebration is held in commemoration of the ending of slavery in America. Juneteenth (June 19th) is the oldest such event which began in 1865 in Texas, where it is observed as an official state holiday. This is a community event which involves the total community, i.e, persons of all backgrounds are welcome to participate in the activities. If interested in helping to plan, coordinate and/or implement, please call. We welcome co-sponsors, vendors, musicians, performers, storytellers, dancers, poets, spoken word artists, face painters, martial arts and other demonstrations, children's games and activities. There will be a short presentation on the history and significance of Juneteenth Celebrations. Please call regarding the pre-screening of activities and performances as well as items for vending. There is generally plenty of food along with other refreshments available. Join us for this historic African American tradition of celebrating freedom
