Position Overview
Facilities Services supports KU's mission of learning, scholarship, and creative endeavor by operating and maintaining the University's physical plant and grounds. The incumbent is responsible for independently or leading a team to perform a wide variety of maintenance and emergency repair tasks to University buildings (physical structure, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems), with the employee being involved in a regular program of inspection and repair at a journeyman level using more than one skilled trade. This position requires the operation of work issued vehicles.

Job Description
50% - This is a lead position to assist in the troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance for various fire alarm, mechanical, electrical, 3 phase power, generator, plumbing and structural equipment. Performs lubrication, cleaning inspection, changes belts and filters in equipment. Performs repairs on heating ventilating and air conditioning units, reset fire alarm systems, electric motors, gear reducer, air compressors, various electrical and pneumatic control components.
40% - Responds to emergency calls involving loss of utilities or equipment failure. Resets breakers helps repair leaks in water or air lines. Repairs are performed as time and expertise permits. May assist Central Shop staff with more complex repairs. Assist in training and mentoring general maintenance staff.
5% - Other Related Work as Assigned: Maintains an adequate supply of tools, parts, and supplies for jobs. Responds to after-hours emergency calls as needed. Assists with other maintenance areas and in other work areas as assigned. Assists with snow removal and surface treatment.
5% - Performs other related work as assigned.
Position Requirements
• Reach, grasp, hold, lift and place moderately heavy loads and heavy loads occasionally (50 lbs) with or without accommodation. • Perform work above normal heights, in confined spaces and extreme temperatures (hot and cold) inside and outdoors. • Operate work issued vehicles for transporting staff and materials • Work occasional planned and unplanned overtime as needed including responding to after-hours emergencies as needed. • Report to work during declared periods of inclement weather. • Must have a valid driver’s license by the time of hire and maintain that license throughout employment. • Must digitally enter work order information and perform other electronic communications as required.
Required Qualifications
• High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency. • Three (3) years of experience in a skilled craft area. Certificate from a vocational school or an associate's degree in a building or mechanical trade area may be substituted for one year of the required experience. • Must have a valid driver’s license by the time of hire and maintain the license throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications
• One year of generator and/or life safety systems experience. • Knowledge of the standard practices, tools, equipment and materials associated with a variety of skilled crafts and building trades. • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of skilled crafts and building trades. • Ability to read and correctly interpret blueprints, electrical or plumbing schematics. • Experience working in a university, college or multi-building campus environment.

The Retail Supervisor provides leadership, training, direction and coaching to staff, and is actively involved in all functions related to daily retail operations and sales for Kennedy Center retail shops and pop-ups. Serve warrants of arrest; prepare affidavits and search warrants; execute search warrants; prepare operations plans; complete risk assessments of target locations; prepares search warrant returns; testify in Grand Jury and other court proceedings at the local, state and federal level. Track and locate suspicious, unusual and missing persons; access and review local and public databases, bank, and telephone records; interview associates of missing persons. May be assigned internal investigations involving enforcement personnel. This requires application of civil employment rules and regulations while working under the guidance and direction of the Professional Standards Unit. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Thorough Knowledge of: Criminal investigation principles, techniques and practices; laws of evidence, arrest for probable cause, search and seizure, use of force, and similar laws and statutes; techniques of interrogation and identification and preservation of physical evidence; methods and use of scientific investigative equipment; use of witnesses; criminal report preparation; criminal justice system and related judicial procedures applicable to criminal law, including courtroom testimony. Working Knowledge of: First aid and CPR; correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. Skill to: Review information related to a criminal incident, identify the key elements and develop a strong case if possible or clear unfounded cases for prosecution; testify truthfully, clearly, thoroughly and credibly in court; plan and organize work independently, communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with a wide range of individuals; analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine the proper course of action to be taken; obtain information through interview and interrogation; prepare clear, concise, complete, and accurate law enforcement reports; understand and follow oral and written orders including County and Sheriff's Office policies and procedures; properly use police equipment and techniques including firearms and restraining devices; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the public, co-workers, and a variety of other criminal justice officials and personnel; use computer to enter data, write narratives and reports, and conduct research; ability to maintain strict confidences and disclose information on a need to know basis. WORKING CONDITIONS The Sheriff's Office is a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week operation requiring availability to work any and all shifts. Duties are performed in a variety of settings including office, outdoor environments and in a vehicle and frequently in hostile, stressful, and threatening environments. Shift start time to be determined upon appointment.
