The South Florida Premiere screening of "The Guerrero Project," a documentary on the wreck of a Spanish slave ship in the Florida Keys and the fate of the Africans aboard, will be held on Thursday, June16, 2005, at 6:00 p.m. at the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, 101 West Flagler Street, in downtown Miami. Filmmaker Karuna Eberl and other guests will be in attendance, and a discussion will follow the film showing. Admission is free and open to the public. The true story of the Guerrero, brought to light by independent Florida Keys researcher Gail Swanson, contains more plot twists than a fictional Hollywood movie script, and continues today, as competing groups vie for privilege of finding the wreck, among thorny questions and debates regarding final ownership of any artifacts that may be found and who will control the telling of the story.
