In September 1987, the Kunta Kinte Celebration was born in Annapolis, Maryland. America's first national capital. The celebration marked a momentous historical occasion for all African Americans and particularly Marylanders. For over ten years, Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival has provided an opportunity for people from all over the world to become educated about African American contributions, be entertained by talented performers, to marvel at exceptional work by skillful artists, to enjoy exquisite cuisine from various cultures and to renew or energize family ties.
