Graduate Public Service Internship Program

University of Illinois @ Springfield

 

Located at the University of Illinois at Springfield, the Graduate Public Service Internship Program (GPSI) is ranked as one of Illinois’ premier governmental internship programs and is open to students with all academic backgrounds.  For over 30 years GPSI has provided interns with the opportunity to simultaneously begin a professional career in government while earning a master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Springfield. 

 

Placements are with state and municipal agencies for 21 months.  Weekly work schedule is 20 hours a week from August 16 through May 15 with a monthly stipend of $850.  From May 16 through August 15 the work schedule is 37.5 hours a week and the monthly stipend is $1,700 per month.  Interns receive a tuition waiver of 9 credit hours for fall and spring semesters and an optional 4 credit hours waiver for summer semester, a total of 40 credit hours tuition waiver, in addition to a $300 per year professional development fund. 

 

Required application materials are a UIS graduate admission application (Section I), GPSI application (Section II), official transcripts from each college attended, current resume, three (3) letters of recommendation, and a personal goal statement.  Applicants can complete the UIS graduate admission application (Section I and Section II) online at www.uis.edu/admissions/apply.html and obtain the detailed application information and procedures. Please note - the application deadline is March 15 of each year.

40,000 Scholarship for High School Seniors with Parents/Guardians in Financial Services

The Gordon A. Rich Memorial Foundation (“GAR”) was created to honor the memory of Gordon Rich. Gordon was an individual of extraordinary talent, energy and persistence with a passion for life. He was extremely bright, hard working, a superb athlete, an accomplished pianist, a master chef and wine connoisseur, an advisor to corporations and their leaders and a loving father and husband. His effusive personality combined with a genuine interest in the well being of others yielded him a plethora of friends from all walks of life.  GAR's mission is to award grants to support the higher education goals of its recipients. The recipients of GAR scholarships are exceptionally qualified high school students with demonstrated financial need whose parents or guardians work in the financial services industry. Requirements and Selection Process

Parents and/or legal guardians of the students applying must work in the financial services industry.

Students must be graduating high school seniors who are enrolling as full time first year students in pursuit of a four-year bachelor's degree at an accredited college/university in the United States .

Students must demonstrate financial need (as determined by the calculation of the Federal Expected Family Contribution). Students will be required to submit the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE, which will be used to evaluate the students' eligibility for an award. Each year the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASHF) offers several scholarship and grant competitions to graduate students and new researchers in the field of communication sciences and disorders. Up to ten Graduate Student Scholarships are available annually for master's or doctoral level students studying audiology or speech language pathology. Of the ten scholarships, one gives priority to a student with a disability, one gives priority to an international student studying in the US, and one gives priority to a US citizen who is a member of an
